Donald Trump Trades Roast-Worthy Jabs With Press At Annual Gridiron Dinner

President Donald Trump appears to have made peace with jokes at the expense of himself and his inner circle, cracking gags about his son-in-law Jared Kushner's security clearance at the annual Gridiron Club dinner.

Despite the president previously appearing to be far less comfortable with such comedic shows than his predecessor Barack Obama, who gave several amusing speeches to the White House Correspondents Dinner, which Trump a year ago avoided, he seemed to enjoy his new role as comedian in chief.

Turning to the media, Trump said he and The New York Times are both New York City icons - "the only difference is I still own my buildings". "I told them not to worry".

Trump's jokes targeted members of his administration and family, as well as himself.

"I won't rule out direct talks with Kim Jong Un, I just won't", Trump said, according to Politico. I just won't. As far as the risk of dealing with a madman is concerned, that's his problem, not mine.

Like predecessors who have attended the dinner, Trump also got to speak and try his hand at making fun of the press and other adversaries.

On the first lady: Trump said he doesn't understand why everyone says #freemelania. Besides joking about Pence and Kushner, Trump also slipped in a joke about the rumored state of his marriage in a departure from his usually more serious tone. "Steve Miller or Melania?'" Trump joked.

Kaala Teaser Breakdown: Shiva symbolism in Rajinikanth that you missed
Director Ranjith teases with a couple of mass scenes without showing any action bits but the impact is clearly seen. A couple of summers ago Rajinikanth went back to his roots with Kabali , directed by the young and talented Pa.

"We were late tonight because Jared could not get through security", the president told the crowd. But for a president who rarely provides the country with laughs - and who opted out of attending both dinners past year - the spotlight on his jokes at the dinner was all the brighter.

"Regarding Waters, NPR reports Trump said, "'He must be impeached!' That's all she knows how to say. He said he liked turnover and chaos because it was "exciting and invigorating" and brought in new thought. "That guy leaked more than the Titanic!". Trump took the stage on the same night Alec Baldwin returned to "Saturday Night Live" to do a Trump impersonation the president considers awful. "I'm a NY icon, you're a NY icon, and the only difference is, I still own my buildings". "And a lot of you cover things very squarely and there are few professions that i respect more".

"I do want to say this is one of the best times I can ever remember having with the media". The annual closed-door dinner, hosted by the exclusive group of top Washington journalists, traditionally includes a night of jokes, skits and musical numbers.

Trump expressed his displeasure with Baldwin's impersonation on Friday.

"This might be the best night I've had since watching your faces on election night", Trump said. Presidents since William McKinley have dutifully shown up at the Gridiron's formal clambake, which has evolved into an evening of goofy entertainment by the journalists and jokey monologues by a prominent Republican and Democrat, and a roast-like speech by the president. Certainly, better than the lines he delivered at the infamous Al Smith dinner.

He then attempted to fix any inference that the first lady might leave him by praising her for the job she's done and by saying "she's actually having a great time". He's going to be president? Many have had excellent comic timing.
