Donald Trump Tuesday sacked his top diplomat Rex Tillerson and named current Central Intelligence Agency chief Mike Pompeo to succeed him, ending a rocky tenure by the Texas oilman who had been sidelined on the world stage by the mercurial president.

They were never in harmony over the Iran nuclear deal, and they were certainly never in step over North Korea.

The tensions peaked last fall amid reports Tillerson had called Trump a "moron" and considered resigning.

Mike Pompeo now awaits confirmation from the Senate.

He spoke on Tuesday of his desire to break the deal, but noted that Mr Tillerson "felt a little bit differently, so we were not really thinking the same".

"I know Mike Pompeo from our time serving in the House of Representatives together and wish him the best of luck in this new and important role", Poliquin said.

"Would you define this White House as stable?" a reporter followed up.

"Rex Tillerson's cozy relationship with the Kremlin is especially alarming in light of his attitude toward sanctions over Russia's aggressive behavior in Europe, while at the same time the President-elect continues to side with Russian Federation over the judgment of the US intelligence community", she wrote.

Blast in Kabul's Shia area kills at least seven; Daesh claims responsibility
The group has not publicly responded to Ghani's invitation and previously said it would negotiate only with USA officials. Local Hazara leader Mohammad Mohaqiq told the gathering that the explosion was an attempt to terrorize Afghans.

On Monday, the day before he was sacked, Tillerson said the poisoning of an ex-spy in Britain "clearly came from Russia" and "will trigger a response".

Hours later, Mr Goldstein was himself fired.

A respected figure in the oil business, the 65-year-old Texan's tenure at the State Department drew scorn from Trump's opponents, from former diplomats and from the Washington policy elite.

European diplomats saw some chance Pompeo may have more influence over Trump than Tillerson, who antagonized the US president by reportedly calling him a "moron" and who differed with Trump on Iran and other issues. After hours of bureaucratic tug-of-war, Tillerson, in his final somber turn before the cameras, said he would be delegating his responsibilities to deputy secretary John Sullivan at the end of the workday and would resign effective at the end of the month.

"Expect Pompeo to play a protagonist's role in avoiding the entrapment of previous USA administration engagements with North Korea by holding absolutely firm on the United States' desired end state -denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and an end to the North Korea ballistic missile program". "President Trump's actions show that every official in his Administration is at the mercy of his personal whims and his worship of Putin". His stance created another messaging problem for a White House that has often struggled to project a united front. Last week, top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, quit after Trump announced trade tariffs that would affect U.S. allies.

Trump has also faced a cloud of ethics allegations surrounding other members of his Cabinet, including Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin - the latter of whom is said to be on thin ice with the president.

Tillerson had a close relationship with Defense Secretary James Mattis.
