Bihar bypolls: NDA leads in Araria, Bhabua, Grand Alliance in Jahanabad

The RJD did not contest in Bhabua assembly constituency, but the results came as a dampener for the anti-BJP alliance. He said out of eight assembly segments (six segments in Araria LS seat besides Jehanabad and Bhabhua), BJP led in five whereas RJD led in three.

A day after the BJP lost Araria Lok Sabha seat to the RJD, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday said that seeds of extremism have been sown in Araria and that the region would soon become a "hub of terrorists".

While the BJP fielded candidates in Araria and Bhabhua, the JD (U) was in fray in Jehanabad, which is almost 60 km from capital Patna.

The by-election to the Araria seat was necessitated by the death of RJD MP Mohd Taslimuddin.

Hindustani Awami Morcha president Jitan Ram Manjhi, who had quit the NDA on eve of the by-polls to join hands with the RJD, was present with Tejaswi last evening to celebrate the victory at Araria and Jehanabad.
