'We are aware of Mt Ludwick's history and comments surrounding the disappearance of Natalee Ann Holloway, ' the North Port Police Department said in a statement.

His name didn't surface in media reports for months - until this week, when he found himself at the center of a different tragedy.

Ludwick was roommates with the woman at one point and wanted a romantic relationship with her, but she didn't want one with him, North Port police spokesperson Joshua Taylor said.

Ludwick made headlines in The Oxygen Network's " The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway", series in which he said he helped Joran van der Sloot dispose of the body of Alabama high schooler Holloway.

Cops later found a bleeding Ludwick away from the scene, airlifting him to the hospital where he died that morning. He played an audio recording in which Ludwick said she called him, complaining that the other man had been beating her and Ludwick was considering killing him for abusing her. She has not been charged in the fatal stabbing; police said the investigation "is ongoing". Ludwick claimed that van der Sloot paid him $1,500 to dig up Natalee's remains at a residential property in Aruba and dispose of them elsewhere, in an unknown location. But he was released on both occasions because of a lack of evidence and was never charged in connection to Holloway's death. Van der Sloot was arrested in 2010 for murdering a young woman he met at a casino in Peru.

Holloway's disappearance remains unsolved, but a strong lead appeared to surface a year ago.

Investigators in the Holloway case have been told about Ludwick's death. Ludwick told Grace that he met Van der Sloot on Aruba in 2010 and hung out with him nearly every day for a few months.

Ludwick said he and van der Sloot spent hours crushing Holloway's bones and later burned her skull. 'The correct authorities who are working that case have been notified'. It alleges that the producers asked Beth for a DNA sample when they already knew that bone fragments they found did not belong to Holloway.
