More Massachusetts students set to take stand against gun violence

Approximately 100 students from the school participated in the National School Walkout calling for stronger gun control.

Lucy Witzke, a seventh grade student at State College Friends School, writes an affirmation heart for students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. They also discussed gun laws and whether it was too easy to buy a gun, with students respectfully disagreeing on a couple points.

Justin's mother, Megan, says she was shocked no one else joined in, but she wasn't surprised her son participated in the walkout.

At North Bend High School a group of around 20 students stood on the corner of 14th Street and Pacific Street and held signs that read "Safe Schools Now". They chanted during what was meant to be a moment of silence for the 17 victims of the school shooting.

At Golda Och Academy, a Conservative day school in West Orange, New Jersey, students organized a prayer memorial service ahead of the walkout.

He appeared in court Wednesday as students across the nation walked out of school to protest gun violence.

"I just want people to know that these aren't just names. I don't know why people would do it, but it's really upsetting", North Bend High School student Jonathan Flood said.

Classroom instruction continued during the protests, which were supervised by administrators.

"We have a voice, we have the power to make our school and community a safer, kinder place". Both students were part of the five who spearheaded the walkout. She said, "I came out today because my daughter needed me to chaperone her for the walk-out".

Since the Parkland shootings, dozens of other threats have been made to schools from Farmington to Ellsworth. We look forward to welcoming students back tomorrow for a great day of teaching and learning.

"People are sick and exhausted of gun violence and the time is now for all of us, together, to stand up to the NRA".

Woodbury High School students' calls for action ranged from stricter regulations and more thorough background checks to outright bans on guns. She told TapInto she was there to support the students. In response, Keranen reached out and stated gathering up other students.

"Enough is enough. People are done with being shot", said Iris Fosse-Ober, a senior at Washburn High School in Minneapolis.

"We're the ones in school, and we're the ones affected the most by this", Russell said.

He received support from people all across the political spectrum, he said.
