Ronan Farrow, the author of the New Yorker story, told CNN's "New Day" on Thursday that the order to stop the reporting came from David Pecker, the publisher of the National Enquirer and Trump's friend.

Radar Online, a sister publication of the National Enquirer, reported that the magazine had paid Dino Sajudin, who worked at one of Mr Trump's NY buildings, for the story but did not publish anything. (AMI) gave Dino Sajudin $30,000 to gain rights "in perpetuity" regarding a rumor the ex-doorman had heard.

The contract subjected Mr Sajudin to a $1 million penalty if he disclosed either the rumor or the terms of the deal to anyone, according to United States media.

George, the longtime former reporter and editor, said the $1 million penalty in Sajudin's agreement was larger than anything he had seen in his Enquirer career.

If prosecutors determine that the paper was indeed operating on behalf of the Trump 2016 presidential campaign, or Trump's current 2020 campaign, both the Enquirer and the campaign could be on the hook for serious violations of election finance laws.

The ex-doorman, the AP discovered, was privy to rumor of a relationship between Trump and another woman who lived at Trump World Tower.

"AMI categorically denies that Donald Trump or Michael Cohen had anything to do with its decision not to pursue a story about a "love child" that it determined was not credible", AMI said in its statement Thursday. He has said nothing - at least as far as I can find - about the payment to McDougal and the alleged payment to the doorman. "These claims are reckless, unsubstantiated, and false", according to the statement. He said he was acting as a Trump spokesman when he did so and denied knowing anything beforehand about the Enquirer payment to the ex-doorman.

Harvey, Irma, Maria retired as Atlantic storm names
An additional fatality in Panama was due to a "shipwreck", bringing the death toll directly associated with Nate to 45. When it hit Puerto Rico, it was still a Category 4, and the strongest storm to hit the US territory since 1928.

Algeria plane crash claims more than 250 lives
Earlier TV images showed flames and smoke billowing from the site of the crash, the country's worst air disaster. The victims' bodies were transported to the Algerian army's central hospital outside the capital.

Snow covers Wrigley Field, delays Cubs home opener
The Chicago Cubs have pushed back the scheduled start time for their home opener because of a steady snowfall over Wrigley Field. The 25-year old second baseman is only hitting.154 on the season with zero homers, however he has driven in four runs.

Former Playboy model Karen McDougal alleged that her story about an affair she had with Trump was also bought by AMI only to never be published as well. Also, the subject disappeared into the ether after Farrow told him The New Yorker doesn't pay sources. AMI has said that McDougall did not produce the columns, according to the New Yorker.

On Monday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Cohen's hotel room and office looking for information about the McDougal and Daniels payouts, Trump's infamous Access Hollywood tape, and communications between Cohen, Trump, Pecker, and AMI's chief content officer Dylan Howard.

Now, get this ... he claims, "On one occasion immediately after the 2016 presidential election, Mr. Sciricco told Mr. Sajudin 'I hope Trump gets rid of you all'". He declined to speak with the New Yorker after Farrow told him the publication does not pay its sources. That Pecker and Cohen acted entirely independently, spending their own money to silence allegations that the president has said are untrue.

The New York Times has reported that McDougal believes that Cohen was working behind the scenes with AMI in the purchase of her story that the company had no intention of running.

Her mom lives in a modest neighborhood in Queens, N.Y. When reached by The Associated Press, she said, "This is all fake".

She has not returned Inside Edition's calls for comment.
