Ferrell was riding in an SUV with two other passengers and their chauffeur, and they were sideswiped by another vehicle.

Deadline and TMZ report Ferrell was hospitalized and has been released.

Ferrell was traveling northbound on I-5 near Aliso Viejo with two other people in a chauffeur-driven SUV around 10:55 p.m. when a Toyota swerved into it, causing it to hit the center dividing wall and flip over, The Orange County Register reported.

Ferrell was taken to a hospital for unspecified injuries.

It misplaced administration and overturned due to the collision, leaving two completely different males inside with minor accidents and a 27-year-old woman - who the California Freeway Patrol acknowledged was the one one not sporting a seat belt - in an important state of affairs. The SUV occupied by Ferrell and his colleagues had been in the HOV lane when it was struck by the other vehicle.

An investigation is continuing, but alcohol and drugs were not determined to be a factor, CHP public information officer Rafael Reynoso told NBC News.

At the time of the accident, Ferrell was returning from a amusing or Die event in the San Diego area called Glam Up the Midterms, at which he appeared as his Anchorman character Ron Burgundy.

TMZ reported that witnesses said Ferrell was talking on his phone as paramedics loaded him into an ambulance.

Ferrell, a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member who has parlayed his exaggerated goofball style of humor into a successful movie career, is perhaps best known for his roles in comedies such as "Anchorman", "Elf", "Talladega Nights" and "Step Brothers".
