"It's a fun way to win for sure", Ricciardo told Sky F1.

Mercedes have edged in front in the constructors' championship by a single point from the Italian team, which saw Vettel's lead at the top of the drivers' standings cut to nine points by Hamilton.

With AP Photos.Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull won Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix to claim the sixth victory of his Formula One career. No one could have ever predicted what has gone down as one of the most tense, unpredictable and thrilling F1 races ever.

"It's so close between Red Bull, Ferrari and us", he said. An opportunistic lunge by Pierre Gasly on teammate Brendon Hartley at Turn 14 resulted in contact and a spin, as well as leaving debris through the corner that prompted the stewards to call for a Safety Car. It resulted in Gasly punting the right-rear section of his teammate's auto, which resulted in many bits of sharp carbon-fibre being strewn all over that section of the race track.

The introduction of the safety vehicle proved a pivotal moment after marshals sought to clear debris from the hairpin after a collision between Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly and Brendon Harley. And that is where the race turned on its head.

While Ricciardo's moves to rise to second had been spectacular, the Red Bull driver left the best until last.

He took advantage when the safety vehicle came out on the 31st lap to allow him to get fresh tyres. At that point I knew that we had a vehicle to win and I wasn't going to be satisfied until I was in the lead. On lap 41 the Aussie managed to go past Hamilton to take third.

Verstappen tried passing Hamilton but ended up going off the track, he lost a place to Ricciardo in that move.

Ricciardo's iconic "Shoey" made a return to the podium as Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team celebrated the victory together.

The prosecutors noted Cohen had personally not turned over any documents to Robert Mueller's Special Counsel investigation. Representing Trump, Joanna Hendon said that as Cohen's client, Trump has the right to assert what's privileged, not Cohen.

Lewis Hamilton who finished fourth said: "I was in no man's land today".

Verstappen was handed a ten-second post-race time penalty but all eyes were on the charging Ricciardo.

Hamilton's team-mate Valtteri Bottas appeared on course for an excellent victory over Vettel before the safety vehicle period after the Finn jumped the Ferrari during their pit stops.

Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes was second and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was third. Raikkonen took a few good looks but ultimately was just under 0.8 seconds behind Bottas at the finish with Verstappen another 0.8 seconds behind him on the road. Verstappen jumped Hamilton to go into third while Hamilton dropped to fifth.

Verstappen was penalised for causing a collision with Vettel.

And the Spaniard took Vettel in the penultimate lap to cap a bad day for the championship leader.

Niko Hulkenberg crossed the line sixth ahead of Fernando Alonso, who maintains his run of points finishes to start the 2018 season.

But it all started to change as the pit stops started, with Verstappen and both Mercedes the first of the leaders in and Ferrari leaving Vettel out for a couple of more laps. Running on Ultrasofts, Verstappen was unable to keep up with the leading duo, with Red Bull trying to find the undercut by pitting the Dutchman first at the end of Lap 17.
