Two athletes ordered to leave Commonwealth Games on first flight home

Games officials appear clueless over the whereabouts of one-third of the Cameroon team after eight of its 24 members walked out of the athletes' village, never to return again.

Those 14 athletes left the Games village during the event but later turned themselves in to immigration officials.

"These athletes. were part of a team that had a training camp before getting to Gold Coast", he said in a statement.

The Cameroon team's press attaché Simon Molombe told "They just left in the night".

"We would appreciate them sticking within the law, enjoying themselves, but sticking within the law", organising committee boss Peter Beattie told reporters.

"These people and others that might have a similar objective need to hear this message very clearly - they aren't going to game the system", he said.

Grevemberg warned, however, that they would take the matter "very seriously" if they were found to have broken the regulations.

"The Australian government is working closely with the organising committee and global stakeholders to ensure that Commonwealth Games officials and athletes are aware of their visa responsibilities", the ABF said in a statement on Thursday. In some cases athletes applied for asylum.

"However, Commonwealth Games visitors who do not meet their visa requirements can expect to have their visas cancelled".
